What is a Universal Electricity Supplier?

The Universal Electricity Supplier supplies electricity to households and small-sized customers which have selected the Supplier to be their supplier or whose supplier has stopped supplying electricity. Small-sized customers are enterprises employing less than 50 employees and whose total annual incomes have been lower than EUR 2 million in the past two years. The Universal Electricity Supplier is EVN Home.

What is a liberalized electricity market?

The liberalization of the electricity market means that customers can individually choose their electricity supplier.

Electricity supply on a liberalized (open) market is performed by licensed electricity supply companies, at fees and terms set forth by the suppliers.

Customers participating in the liberalized market are sent two invoices

One invoice from Elektrodistribucija for the use of the grid (grid fee invoice)
Another ne from the Electricity Supplier of choice (electricity invoice)

Do I have to purchase electricity solely from EVN Home or I can select an electricity supplier of my choice?

The electricity market in the country has been completely liberalized, meaning that all customers are free to select their Electricity Supplier which is to supply them. Customers belonging to the category of households and small-sized customers are free to select the Universal Supplier EVN Home to be their electricity supplier.

What is a Supplier of Last Resort?

Supplier of Last Resort is a supplier which is bound to supply its customers which do not belong to the category of households and small-sized customers which have been left without an electricity supplier, in the event as follows:

If the previous supplier has stopped meeting their obligations for electricity supply within existing valid electricity supply contracts;
If bankruptcy proceedings have been initiated against the previous electricity supplier or the current electricity supplier is undergoing liquidation;
If the previous electricity supplier has lost its license (if the license has been suspended, withdrawn or ceased to be valid);
If customers have failed to enter a new electricity supply contract following the termination or the expiry of the current electricity supply contract.

The Supplier of Last Resort is bound to supply electricity to customers which have been left without an electricity supplier within 90 days at the longest. During this period, customers are bound to enter new electricity supply contract with a new electricity supplier of their choice.

Which company is currently serving as a Supplier of Last Resort / is to supply electricity to customers in the event they are left without electricity supplier?

EVN Home holds a license for supplying electricity in the capacity of electricity supplier of last resort.

What are electricity fees of the Supplier of Last Resort?

Electricity fees applicable to customers supplied by EVN Home, pursuant to the Energy Law, are set based on the Tariff System for the sale of electricity to customers supplied by the Universal Supplier and the Supplier of Last Resort passed by the Energy and Water Services Regulatory Commission.

The price at which the Supplier of Last Resort supplies large customers who are without an electricity supplier is calculated by applying the following formula:

𝐶𝑚 - price at which the Supplier of Last Resort supplies large customers which are without an electricity supplier in the month m, MKD/MWh
𝐶𝑚,MEMO - price for electricity on the "day-ahead" market of the organized electricity market of the Republic of North Macedonia for each hour of the month to which the calculation relates, MKD/MWh.
