The reopening of the Electricity Exhibition Center „Matka“, located in the old building of EVN Elektrani's eponymous power plant, was celebrated by making models that are supplied with energy from renewable sources, constructed by the members of the „Narodna Tehnika“ association. The children and young people who are lovers of the technical sciences and part of „Narodna Tehnika“, after visiting the exhibits at „Matka“, together with their instructors held a workshop dedicated to green energy and its potential. Models of houses and electric circuits powered by electricity from photovoltaics were made, and a short lecture was held as well. At the „Matka“ Exhibition Center there are about 30 exhibits which through a multimedia and interactive approach enable visitors to gain new knowledge. The President of the Management Board of EVN Macedonia, Mr. Stefan Peter, expressed satisfaction that students and tourists have returned to the museum: „It is a great joy that, after more than two challenging pandemic years, we are reopening the EVN Museum in Matka for all visitors and providing them with a full educational and fun experience. The 'Matka' Exhibition Center is the first and only electricity museum in the country. We are symbolically reopening it on International Museum Day, which serves to raise awareness of the importance of museums' role in informal learning and cultural enrichment. Through the exhibits, visitors are introduced to the term electricity and how it is produced and delivered to homes and companies. They learn about the history of electricity and participate in renewable energy workshops. Amid an energy crisis, energy efficiency education is extremely important and that is why we invite every interested citizen of any age to visit this unique center and find out more about this topic.“ The Electricity Exhibition Center „Matka“ opened in 2017, and in addition to individuals, it is annually visited by over 7,000 people in organized educational tours. The number of visitors plummeted during the pandemic, when the center was closed, except for scheduled visits in compliance with the protective measures. In order to encourage education in the technical sciences, EVN at the opening of the Electricity Exhibition Center „Matka“ signed an initiative for its use with the Bureau for Development of Education and has established cooperation with universities and secondary and primary schools in the country as well. In addition, four years ago, the Electricity Exhibition Center „Matka“ became part of Skopje's official tourist offer. All contents at the „Matka“ Exhibition Center are in Macedonian, Albanian and English, and the center won the Museum of the Year Award presented by ICOM (International Council of Museums) - Macedonia, as well as the National Social Responsibility Award, which is presented by the Ministry of Economy.
